Hot Sugar – “There’s a Man Waiting at the Bottom of the Stairs”

Although this instrumental may not be as “fun” as some of the other stuff I have posted on here recently (see: Skinny Friedman), it has a way of creeping up on you and making you listen over and over. Besides having one of the creepiest titles I can think of, “There’s a Man Waiting at the Bottom of the Stairs” is truly electronic instrumentalism as I think it should be: low key, full of casio, and hints of ethereal influences. Check out “There’s a Man Waiting at the Bottom of the Stairs” below, or check out Hot Sugar’s SoundCloud account.

AC Slater – “Sidewinder” (Drop the Lime Remix)

AC Slater’s “Sidewinder” only came out a few days ago (check the original here), but there are already remixes of the song popping up everywhere I turn. This particular remix, cleverly titled the Drop the Lime Remix, still incorporates the drops that make the original so great but add in a few easter eggs for the listener to find.

Check out the Drop the Lime remix of “Sidewinder” below!

Dntel – “Bright Night”

Dntel has always been on my radar ever since he did a song with Bright Eyes (my favorite artist of all time…sorry Kanye), and I was entranced by the experimental plinking, random start and stops of the beat and the heavily edited vocals. Dntel is now coming out with Aimlessness; his first studio release since 2010.

“Bright Night” is the first released song off of Aimlessness and gives us a good idea of how the rest of the album is going to be. I am a huge fan, and cannot wait for Aimlessness to hit the interwebs, but check it out for yourself. Stream “Bright Night” below.

Oddisee – Rock Creek Park

A tweet was met with praise, (well, a retweet) from sir Oddisee himself tonight about his latest LP release, Rock Creek Park. He’s talking about a park in D.C. of course, and of his childhood memories of going to Rock Creek Park. Using this as the platform for the project, he expands on it by creating tracks according to what he envisions what a soundtrack for the park would be, “What does walking along the trails of the park sound like? What does driving on the narrow tree lined roads sound like?” And thus, we get his idea and inspiration behind Rock Creek Park. “Skipping Rocks” is the prime introductory instrumental song layered with a sax-hook, reminiscent of ripples in the water after, say, skipping rocks. The majority of the LP is ear deep in the blues, the emotional relationship with the idea of the park but in a carefree way too, that only its more jazz influenced side could counter-balance. Overall, it’s beautifully nostalgic. Oddisee does an excellent job executing his projected idea.

Clams Casino – Rainforest EP

I was tipped off about Clams Casino from Aileen when she sent over some of his instrumental stuff; which it turns out, is all he does. There was virtually no information on him until of recent when people started to pick up more of his beats; I was able to piece together that this is Lil B’s producer. Say what you will about Lil B, I definitely think he should count his lucky stars when it comes to ‘Clammy Clams’. Especially for this Rainforest EP. Spaced out, ambient type tracks, similar to those previously produced and heard through final production with Lil B. Listen below or head over to his Soundcloud .
