Paper Plates – “Ocean” (prod. Juna Cosmos)

Paper Plates hits us with a track about seeming nervous and being a social pariah over a slow and slick head nodding beat with his latest track, “Ocean”. The entire song is somewhat unsettling and Paper Plates does not let up throughout the entire 4:23 minutes of pure dark hip-hop that “Ocean” offers. And although you might feel a little uncomfortable by it, you keep pressing that play button over and over again. Also, his accent automatically gets him bonus points with every American girl, ever. Damn, I need to get back to London soon…

But before that, you all should get on the Paper Plates game so you will be able to say you knew him when. Check out “Ocean” below, or his video for “Gutter Mouth” if you can’t get enough.

Drake – “Girls Love Beyoncé”

So, we have heard “Started From the Bottom” and “5 AM in Toronto” from Drake’s upcoming full length, and while both of those are solid tracks, “Girls Love Beyoncé” just completely blows them both out of the water. Staying true to the smooth vibes of this song, the lyrics are sentimental, sincere and beautiful said. There is even a “Say My Name” callback in there too!! Oh, Drake, you’ve done it again.

Check out “Girls Love Beyoncé” below (free download too, whaaaa?):

Azealia Banks – “YUNG RAPUNXEL” Video

Hey guys, remember “212″ or “Fuck Up The Fun” which were both super fun, lyric dependent Azealia Banks songs? Well, “YUNG RAPUNXEL” is nothing of the sort. “YUNG RAPUNXEL” is the first single off of her upcoming full length, Broke With Expensive Taste, which still has no release date after being hyped for more than a few months. Banks has moved away from the solid rap game and more towards the electronic scene, which probably has something to do with the fact that she snagged a major record label deal since the beginning of her career. This song relies heavily on the creepy, deep beat, and much less on the lyrics/screaming that Banks does throughout the song. Honestly, I find “YUNG RAPUNXEL”, just as a song, as mediocre. I probably will not even listen to it again, after writing this article. But…this video, though!

I did not think that witch-hop could be displayed in visuals, but this video does a pretty damn good job. Complete with mouth-eyes (yup), bashing riot police in the face with champagne bottles and random owls flying everywhere, the “YUNG RAPUNXEL” is nothing if not shocking, which is what Banks and her label is striving for these days. Maybe none of those feuds were real at all…maybe her label just wants a bunch of unnecessary drama. Or maybe not. I don’t know. Keep doing you Azealia.

Marcè Reazon – “Rain” ft. Euro League

This song begins with crickets, breezes into a distant woman’s vocal, and then breaks in with elegantly spoken rap. Marcè Reazon keeps a river running type flow in the producing of this song, and there is never a misstep or wrong note. Complete with piano appearances, fluid electronic effects, and some barely-noticeable-but-still-beautiful-singing in the background, Marcè really outdid himself with this one. The verses throughout the entire track are solid as well and help aid with the head bopping the song demands, but the real stand out in this song is the beat. Beauty has been defined, and you can find it in Marcè Reazon’s “Rain”. Get to know this Long Beach native now so you can say “I remember when” when he is gracing the covers of magazines and Billboard charts.

KiD CuDi – “Girls” ft. Too $hort

KiD CuDi is back!! After announcing that he is leaving the G.O.O.D. Music family, he dropped “Girls”, his newest song featuring Too $hort which is to be coming off of his upcoming full length, INDICUD. Pretty sure this song will go straight to the pop charts because of the radio-friendly vibe it gives off, but either way I am still a pretty big fan. Although no song can ever live up to the original “Girls“, CuDi’s newest song is pretty solid. Watch the video below to get a sneak peak, or go to the download link right here.

Drake – “5AM in Toronto” Video

Damn. It’s been a minute since we have seen something dark from Drake, but I think this video has filled that hole. Without any featuring of central lighting, the video for “5AM in Toronto” relies heavily on the creeped out beat and Drake’s lyrics more than anything else. With a bunch of smoking, slo-mo and girls, “5AM in Toronto” is here for you to get weird to. Check it out below:

Ariana Grande – “The Way” ft. Mac Miller

Every thug has to have a soft side, and I guess that is why I am so into this song. Also, Mac Miller is in it so it is kind of an obvious winner in my book because I have a weird obsession with him (yes, I even like “Turkey Love“, the 21 minute song he released about a month ago. Die hard fans put cha hands up!). The song is a pretty solid pop song, after you get over the fact that the song is probably 60% chorus. Ariana Grande’s voice reminds me of a young Mariah Carey, especially at the end when she is hittin’ them high notes.

I have been blasting this song for a minute now, and the video is just the next step for my obsession. Basically it is just Mac and Ariana being cute and taking pictures of each other or playing with balloons (and a make out session at the end. Hot). I feel like this is the type of thing that pop songs should have more of, aka solid beats, good voices (sans auto-tune s’il vous plaît…) and some cheesy but cute rap verses.

If you are ready to have some fun, check out the video below. If you don’t like fun, love or pop, don’t worry, I’ll be returning with some more hard core rap beats soon. But until then, check out Ariana Grande’s debut into the music scene below:

50 Cent – “We Up” ft. Kendrick Lamar

This version of “We Up” by 50 Cent and Kendrick Lamar is just what I needed right before I go to sleep tonight. Low-key, smooth and sans an overbearing drum beat, “We Up” is relaxing and a refreshing reminder that rap is not about to be going anywhere with collaborations with legends and up-and-comers like these two.

This song used to have a verse from Kidd Kidd, another G-Unit member, but thanks to a great deal of backlash on Twitter about his verse, 50 Cent made the executive decision to quietly cut Kidd’s verse out and add in another one of his own. “We Up” will be on 50 Cent’s upcoming Street King Immortal which currently does not have a release date.

Now excuse me as I fall asleep to this on a loop. Take a listen to “We Up” below and enjoy.

Blood Diamonds – “Swimming Pools” (Remix)

I did an ode to “Swimming Pools” remixes about two months ago on What’s Good With It (peep that here), and questioned then how many more of these remixes of Kendrick Lamar’s “Swimming Pools” we really needed. Well…apparently a huge amount more, judging from how many have come out since then. And like all remixes, there have been stellar, not so stellar and just god-awful versions. Every so often there is that one remix that gives one faith that maybe, just maybe, everyone should keep remixing “Swimming Pools” and this is that remix.

Blood Diamonds is a great dude, and WGWI has been a fan for a minute, and he has a great way of transforming the original track into something completely different while still being able to make sure that the purists of the original will enjoy his rendition. Blood Diamonds’ remix of “Swimming Pools” is dark, eerie and memorable. Check it out below:

The-Dream – “Tron”

The-Dream blessed us with a 4m30 trap song full of intergalactic sounds could make the most pretentious of rap fans dance. This probably is a little too out there for The-Dream’s upcoming full length, but in the meantime, I will be over here getting together a twerk team.

Check out The-Dream’s “Tron” below and get ready to blast off.
