Rhythm Heaven Fever Launch Party at iam8bit

Rhythm Tengoku for GBA is one of my favorite games to play on my Game Boy Micro and I love how Nintendo is continuing the series while retaining its innocent and quirky style. I had a blast playing the demo at E3 last year.

Rhythm Heaven Fever is the third sequel, releasing for the Wii and Nintendo is teaming up with Giant Robot and iam8bit for the game’s launch party here in LA this Friday. Details are in the flyer above. Let’s play some rounds together!

Indie Video Game: Runner 2

Outside of the blog, you may (or may not) know that I work in the video game industry. One of the projects I am working on is BIT.TRIP Presents: Runner 2, Future Legend of Rhythm Alien, or Runner 2 for short, coming out for XBLA/PSN. For fans of indie games, this is a great game (and team!) to follow AND we’re keeping our development transparent so you can see how the game is shaped until release. Check out our video above documenting early stages of game development. Grabstrings.

VENUS PATROL: Charting a New Course for Videogame Culture

Feelin’ generous? (I did.) Or, do you just like supporting good stuff? Check out Venus Patrol, a website by Brandon Boyer who is the IGF Chairman and former Boing Boing Offworld Editor. By this point, he already reached his goal on Kickstarter (in 2 days!) but can use all the support you can give him. Watch the video above to learn more about the project.

Lil Wayne Samples Jim Guthrie’s Song from Sword & Sworcery?

There’s some huss and fuss in the gaming community about Lil Wayne sampling a track from Jim Guthrie’s Sword & Sworcery soundtrack (which is a great iOS game, by the way) and although it could be a coincidence, you can take a listen for yourself with the songs below.

Jim Guthrie’s “The Cloud”

And here’s Weezy’s track, “She Will” (Featuring Drake)

Playlist Party: Cornelius – “Like A Rolling Stone”

I just might have the biggest mixtape in my possession. My boyfriend lovingly filled my 16 gig iPod Nano to the brim with his favorite music and gave it back to me. It’s been fun to listen to, and since I have all this “new” music, I’m going to start sharing it on the blog.

Cornelius is an experimental recording artist/producer who has been an aural inspiration, stretching my imagination to its idyllic limits. I am such a fan that I imported the Japan-only Game Boy Advance video game he worked on called Coloris, part of the Bit Generations series published by Nintendo. The song “Like A Rolling Stone” came up on my playlist today. Watch the video if you’re a fan of stop motion.

L.A. Noire

Once again Rockstar has me drooling over a trailer for their upcoming game titled L.A. Noire. Fans of the Grand Theft Auto Series and Red Dead Redemption know the people down at Rockstar know how to make addicting games and it looks like they have another winner on their hands.

Set in a “perfectly re-created” 1940s Los Angeles, L.A. Noire will give players open-ended challenges that lead to solving different murders.  The footage from the trailer below is all from the game itself, which boasts over 20 hours of voice acting. I couldn’t be more excited, given the fact it’s set in a classic film noir style (my favorite genre by the way) this game has to be amazing.

The Behemoth is Looking for Musicians for BattleBlock Theater

One of my favorite game developers, The Behemoth, is looking for music submissions for their new title BattleBlock Theater.

“Over the years we’ve worked with a bunch of different musicians, from established composers to aspiring part time musicians. There were over a dozen composers who contributed to the music of Castle Crashers, many of whom we stumbled across on the Audio Portal on Newgrounds.com. To make a long story short, if you are a musical human you could potentially get involved with the magic of creation for our future games!”

Read the entry on their development blog or go straight to the submissions page.

Um, does anyone want to play Castle Crashers with me?

Human Orchestra

Scored by Onishi Yoshito, Ohashi Takashi animated this beautiful graphic representation of the music. Watch the video and follow along as it takes you through the evolution of the musical landscape. There’s something organic about the piece that I can’t place. Doesn’t it remind you of maneuvering your little petal through the worlds of Flower?

La Blogotheque: Anamanaguchi – Airbrushed

Anamanaguchi rocked our socks off with their contribution to the Scott Pilgrim video game soundtrack. Check them out perform for La Blogotheque during NXNE.

Anamanaguchi Makes Soundtrack for Scott Pilgrim Game

As a guy raised in the era of Nintendo games and the whole bit (pun intended), the pixel-based  graphics of “Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game” were just too tempting to pass up.  Soon after downloading the $10 game onto my Xbox I fell in love with the chiptune soundtrack.  Only when I read some of the reviews for the game, however, did I realize that the soundtrack was actually made entirely by Anamanaguchi, a chiptune band I reviewed back in January of 2008 when they first made their LA debut (for a blog that shall remain unnamed).  If you like chiptune/nintendocore tracks, the game is worth buying just for that.

Here’s the very same track I posted nearly three years ago, if you have the capacity to geek…
