The Great Gatsby Trailer

Okay, okay, so this is not a music post. But it is a modern randition of the 1920s classic book, The Great Gatsby, has Leonardo DiCapro AND has “No Church in the Wild” and “Love is Blindness” in the trailer. Sure, a lot of people are mad that the movie is not featuring classic jazz music and I can see their point, but honestly, since this movie is basically just an esthetically pleasing modern version of the 1920s rather than the ACTUAL 1920s…I feel like the music is fine. Or maybe I am just biased because their music choices are right up my alley. Or perhaps I am just blinded by my love for Leonardo.

FKi + Iggy Azalea + Diplo – “I Think She Ready”

I Think She Ready

Before we get started, it is important to note that this song was created to sell things, not to be a fun song that everyone listens to. SSENCE, a clothing brand, collaborated with FKi, Iggy Azalea and Dilpo to create a song to go along with the first ever interactive shopping music video. As a huge fan of social media and all of the new ways to sell things through interactive ways, I am extremely excited about this idea so I would have watched this video regardless of the song underneath it. SSENSE paired up with wireWAX, and used their cool, new technology to make it possible for the viewer to click on an article of clothing and be taken to the online store and buy it. It is a fun thing to play with if you want to waste some time, or look at pretty clothes that I will never be able to wear because of my desire to go into the music industry where I will make little to no money (but at least I will be doing what I love…! Right guys? Right?)

But anyway, back to the track.

All Welcome

The City Of Hawthorne has been the center of attention lately in the South Bay. Just earlier this week, there was an art show that featured great visuals by many artists as well as music performances from both Narc and Damedas . This Saturday those forces will team up with other artists to perform at the first ever “All Welcome” event at The Den in Hawthorne. Be sure to also check Capitan Fantasma, the solo project of our LA River Swim Team friend, Tony Diaz.

More info about the event can be found here .

Be sure to like “All Welcome” on Facebook here.

I leave you with “El Verano 2011″ (Summer of 2011), a new Damedas tune to start your day off right with an upbeat mood. An article was written about him on The Daily Breeze and I can’t agree anymore when the writer compares his music to the sounds of Panda Bear and El Guincho. Good job Felipe Delgadillo! To Live and Ride in L.A (Film + DVD Release Party)

TRAFIK, a collective of bikers who bike the streets of L.A. have brought to you a documentary that dissects the fixie scene which has entered mainstream in the Bicyling world. We all know riding a bike on the streets of L.A can be dangerous, just last week there was a horrifying accident involving a drunk driver and 11 cyclists (3 of whom were hospitalized). “To Live and Ride in L.A”, directed by David Rowe dives into the lives of well known riders and the hidden culture that is unique to Los Angeles. From drag races in rush hour traffic to warehouse parties, there’s something new in this film you’ve probably never explored before.

To Live & Ride In L.A. OFFICIAL TRAILER from TRAFIK on Vimeo.

Beastie Boys-”Make Some Noise”

Yeah they’re all as old as my dad at this point, but the Beastie Boys are back and as badass as ever with their new song “Make Some Noise”.  Their new album Hot Sauce Committee Part 2 was supposed to be released in 2009, but MCA got cancer and delayed the release.  Now they’re back, cancer free and they still sound exactly the same.  Enjoy some old-school 90′s style rap-rock from the best.

Global Giving for Japan Relief Fund

As (hopefully) all of you know, Japan has recently suffered a lot within the past few days. A 8.9 earthquake and tsunami to follow, the aftermath is completely devastating. Please donate your time or money to help their country regain a sense of stability. There’s several places and ways to do so:

Donate online through:
Red Cross or World Vision

You can also donate through Global Giving. The website has hundreds of non-profit organizations that you can donate to. You can search for NPO’s by category and within each category dollar amounts are broken down to show how your donation improves lives.

Americans for Public Broadcasting

As you might have heard, there’s a few bills currently in congress could potentially be very detramental to publicly funded broadcasting. They are proposing to cut funding from public broadcasting this year, preventing public radio stations from using federal funds to purchase NPR programming and also eliminating public funding for the Corporation of Public Broadcasting. It has currently passed through the House of Representatives and will soon go to the Senate. If passed, it will cut off 170 million people from public broadcasting services.

TAKE ACTION HERE by sending an e-mail to your representative in Congress asking them to stand up for public broadcasting funding. Do it, you know you can’t live without NPR. Via 170MillionAmericans.org

Gorillaz Release iPad Album The Fall on Christmas Day

I thought this was a present for everyone, but I found out it is not. You have to be a member of the Gorillaz fan club Sub Division, which starts at $29.99 to join, to download the Gorillaz iPad-produced album for free Christmas day. What’s up with that? If you’re broke like me, you can listen to the stream online on their website instead. A physical release is planned for 2011.

The music was recorded during spare time while on the road. “I did it because there’s a lot of time that you just spend staring at walls essentially. And it was a fantastic way of doing it” says Damon Albarn. “I found working in the day, whether it’s in the hotel or in the venue, it was a brilliant way of keeping myself well.” Adding that the collection is “..like a diary, I literally wrote everything on the day in each place and there’s a strange sort of sound of America and its musical traditions that comes through. It feels like a journey through America.”

Tracklist
1. Phoner To Arizona
2. Revolving Doors
3. HillBilly Man
4. Detroit
5. Shy-town
6. Little Pink Plastic Bags
7. The Joplin Spider

Norwegian Wood Original Soundtrack by Jonny Greenwood and Trailer Premiere

Inspired by the Beatles song, Norwegian Wood, the most popular novel by acclaimed author Haruki Murakami, is now a film directed by Anh Hung Tran. If that isn’t enough excitement, the original soundtrack features music by 1960s/70s German Krautrock band Can, and is otherwise entirely scored by Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead, whose composer credits include There Will Be Blood and Bodysong. Currently, the soundtrack is only available on Amazon Japan and there is no word on film screenings in North America. View the trailer below with English subtitles.

Can songs in the film:

Can: “Mary, Mary, So Contrary”
Can: “Bring Me Coffee or Tea”
Can: “Don’t Turn the Light On, Leave Me Alone”
