Parlovr – “You Only Want It ‘Cause You’re Lonely”

Parlovr’s first single off of their newest album, Kook Soul, is “You Only Want It ‘Cause You’re Lonely”. If you are not familiar with Parlovr, they have a chilled out WAVVES enthusiasm and Diiv-esque musical vibe about them. “You Only Want It ‘Cause You’re Lonely” not only has a great title, but also provides just the beach going tune I need on these 80+ degree days in Southern California.

Check out “You Only Want It ‘Cause You’re Lonely” below, and get ready to hit the beach (or at least the pool).

Nada Surf – “When I Was Young”

Nada Surf, The Starts are Indifferent to Astronomy

I am so pleased to see and hear something new from Nada Surf. They never disappoint. Steadily creating new albums/music that never strays too far from their original sound, yet still remains totally relevant. I’d attribute a lot of this to their wonderful lyric writing. They’ve portrayed their lives and many hats as as musicians, people of the world, fathers, and dreamers, all concepts fans have been able to relate to for about 20 years. The Starts Are All Indifferent to Astronomy is Nada Surf’s forthcoming album, due out January 24th. With age comes wisdom, and Nada Surf definitely seems to have life figured out.

Real Estate – “Green Aisles”

Real Estate Band, Days LP

I have this theory that Real Estate can do no wrong. Today, Pitchfork gave “Green Aisles” the ‘Best New Track’ title, and rightly so. This is, of course, if you really dig the reverb, lo-fi, dreamy-surf, otherwise called ‘psychedelic’ sound. “Green Aisles” took shape from an extended jam session, and lyrics were written upon waking up in the morning, “In “Green Aisles” he sings “all those aimless drives through green aisles / our careless lifestyle, it was not so unwise”.” Wistful lyrics accompanied by guitar riffs that match flawlessly. “Green Aisles” will be featured on Real Estate’s second LP Days, out October 18th via Domino.

Girls – “Honey Bunny”

Girls, Father, Son, Holy Ghost

Girls had their track previewed today on NPR. Their forthcoming album, Father, Son, Holy Ghost will be released September 18th via True Panther.

TV Girl – Benny and the Jets

I’m really happy to be following up with TV Girl as their infectious “If You Want It” (samples Todd Rundgren’s “Hello It’s Me”) remains a favorite track of mine. Just a few weeks ago they released another EP of four songs titled Benny and the Jets, again giving us a dose of that dreamy, summery, synth-pop sugary goodness. Quick tip: you’ll want to keep an ear out for all the samples used.

You may also remember Dirty Gold (who are from San Diego as well) and their charming song “California Sunrise”. The two teamed up to cover one another and release a split digital 7”, which can be picked up HERE for free. What do you have to do for TV Girl’s new EP? Head over to their Facebook, like them, give ‘em your e-mail. Keep the tracks coming, guys. Couldn’t think of more appropriate sounds for summer.

Dirty Gold – California Sunrise

There’s been a lot coming out of San Diego this past week or so, including Dirty Gold. (See Heavy Hawaii and TV Girl for more SD natives). Take that into account with the song title, you can expect beach vibes. It’s a rather nice track for two brothers that have yet to graduate high school, right? Thought so. You can download the song below, but I suggest watching the video. It just seems so right to be playing over an old-school-surf-video montage.

Heavy Hawaii

Upon listening to “Sleeping Bag” I was instantly reminded of the Beach Boys and finding out that they’re from San Diego only made sense. I can’t find much else on these guys so for now, enjoy the tracks below. Check out their Bandcamp page for a free download of “Teen Angel” and “Sleeping Bag” and dig the extra track from Art Fag Records’ Soundcloud page.
