Lizzart – “Moves Like Pink Matter”

Hey remember when “Moves Like Jagger” was all over the radio and it was fun to listen to for about a week until it came on literally every other song? Yeah, I do too. Since then I have not been able to stand the song, and when I hear those first three notes of the song I get a very strong desire to vomit and / or change the channel.

However, with “Moves like Pink Matter”, the newest ruh-ruh-ruh-reeeeeemixxxxx of Lizzart, I have started to be able to stand the song again! With the addition of the intro to Frank Ocean’s “Pink Matter” the once annoying “Moves Like Jagger” starts to resinate as music once again rather than just obnoxious sounds.

Check out Lizzart’s newest song below and let us know what you think in the comments:

RIP Donna Summer

So, full disclosure, I am 19 years old. But thanks to a father with an expansive music collection, I listened to a lot of 70s soul and disco music, including, of course, Donna Summer. Summer was the first artist (ever; not just first female, and not just first black person) to have three consecutive double albums reach #1 on the United States’ Billboard chart, and if that is not enough to get you impressed, she also charted four singles on the U.S. Billboard charts within 13 months.

DJ SweekUh – “Hoodie’s Fun. Ex Girl”

This song is a nice combination of Fun., The Temptations, Timeflies and Hoodie Allen. Although these songs may seem like kind of a random combination, DJ Sweekuh makes it all seem to work. Considering Hoodie Allen’s first feature length CD just came out last week, it is nice to see him getting some recognition on recent mashups. Also, who doesn’t love The Temptations and Fun.?

Pretty Lights vs. Radiohead vs. Nirvana vs. Nine Inch Nails

Here’s some trippy drug music from Pretty Lights. If the title doesn’t intrigue you than just listen to the damn song. Enjoy.

Drake, James Drake, & JoJo Drake.

Drizzy Drake, the Canadian prettyboy is a hot commodity once again after posting a track from his upcoming sophomore album ‘Take Care’. The track titled “Marvin’s Room” puts you in the role of drunken dialing Drake who pours out his wrong doings to his ex-girlfriend. The spaced out beat and mellowed synths allow the jealous Drake to tear into his new girlfriend’s boyfriend while keeping it soft as if the call took place during afterhours. As a long time Drake fan, I find this emotional tune remedial for post relationships just like most of ‘So Far So Gone’, it’s safe to say he’s won me over again with this one.

Wiz Khalifa vs. Empire of the Sun

Say wha?  Alright, old news, but it looks like Wiz Khalifa rapped off of Empire of the Sun‘s track Walking on a Dream.  This mash-up track titled “The Thrill” was on Khalifa’s 4th mixtape, Burn After Rolling, which came out late 2009.  If you’re a fan of the Wiz but didn’t know about his mixtapes/early tracks, you should really pick up on it.

This track is number 17 at the moment on Hypem.  Way to bring it back.

Mashup – “the notorious xx”

Back in 2010, mashup artist Wait What created an album length mixtape blending all 12 tracks of The xx‘s debut album with the vocals of Biggie Smalls.  The result is a enjoyably laid-back mix of indie rock and hip hop.  Listen to the entire album on SoundCloud after the jump, and check out a few of my favorite tracks below.

Christmas Mashups

As I get older I find it harder and harder to capture the Christmas spirit I once had when I was a kid. However, this morning I stumbled upon a music video mashup of the holiday classic Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and The Police favorite “Roxanne” (check it out here or below). However this lead me to find an entire Christmas mashup album compiled by dj BC called Santastic V: Snow Man!. The entire album is available for download and includes classic mashups of “Seven Nation Army” and “Santa Clause is Coming To Town,” and “Insane in the Brain” and Winter Wonderland,” to name a few. Download it immediately cause it’s epic. Happy Holidays everyone.
