Blood Diamonds – “Swimming Pools” (Remix)

I did an ode to “Swimming Pools” remixes about two months ago on What’s Good With It (peep that here), and questioned then how many more of these remixes of Kendrick Lamar’s “Swimming Pools” we really needed. Well…apparently a huge amount more, judging from how many have come out since then. And like all remixes, there have been stellar, not so stellar and just god-awful versions. Every so often there is that one remix that gives one faith that maybe, just maybe, everyone should keep remixing “Swimming Pools” and this is that remix.

Blood Diamonds is a great dude, and WGWI has been a fan for a minute, and he has a great way of transforming the original track into something completely different while still being able to make sure that the purists of the original will enjoy his rendition. Blood Diamonds’ remix of “Swimming Pools” is dark, eerie and memorable. Check it out below:

Kendrick Lamar – “Bitch, Don’t Kill My Vibe” ft. Jay-Z (Remix)

You thought you already knew “Bitch, Don’t Kill My Vibe” from good kid, m.A.A.d city but that was just because you didn’t know this remix was coming. The first verse lays down a nice base for the song, and then Hov comes in and does his thing (his thing circa 2003, not 2013, by the way, which is refreshing) and then Kendrick comes in for the kill in verse three. As I posted on all my social media channels earlier today, “you can all go back home and stop recording those mix tapes now. The rap game no longer needs saving.” Thank you Kendrick, and amen.

Daft Punk – “Something About Us” (Def Starr Remix)

Okay, okay, so this remix may have come out two years ago, but considering I had never heard it before even though “Something About Us” is one of my favorite songs ever, I thought I would share this gem with all of you!
Have you ever wondered what Daft Punk’s “Something About Us” would sound like as elevator music? Well now you have the chance to discover what that might sound like! Spoiler alert: it is awesome. Check out Def Starr’s remix of “Something About Us” below:

Azealia Banks – “Harlem Shake” Remix

When WGWI first discovered Azealia last winter, we were enamored with her “Fuck Up the Fun” flow and have been on this girl’s bandwagon ever since. With her following releases, such as her mixtape this summer of Fantasea and her subsequent videos, it is safe to say that I am a pretty big fangirl. Despite all of the Twitter beef that she has been engaged with recently with other musicians and Perez Hilton (is he still a person who exists?), I think that Banks has mad talent and has a voice that needs to, and will be, heard no matter what her opponents might think.

As for the song and the video themselves, the song has the typical Banks flow, with my favorite line being “she claiming uptown, and then she bring it down, right?” The video is very low-key, with her rapping and also dancing in a recording room. Her hair is so on point throughout the entire thing, not to mention her fashion sense. Man, I really can’t get over her. But I digress. Watch Azealia Banks’ “Harlem Shake” Remix video below:

Lizzart – “Moves Like Pink Matter”

Hey remember when “Moves Like Jagger” was all over the radio and it was fun to listen to for about a week until it came on literally every other song? Yeah, I do too. Since then I have not been able to stand the song, and when I hear those first three notes of the song I get a very strong desire to vomit and / or change the channel.

However, with “Moves like Pink Matter”, the newest ruh-ruh-ruh-reeeeeemixxxxx of Lizzart, I have started to be able to stand the song again! With the addition of the intro to Frank Ocean’s “Pink Matter” the once annoying “Moves Like Jagger” starts to resinate as music once again rather than just obnoxious sounds.

Check out Lizzart’s newest song below and let us know what you think in the comments:

Kendrick Lamar – “Swimming Pools” [REMIXXXXXXES]

You should all know the original of Kendrick Lamar’s “Swimming Pools” by this point, considering it came out this summer and is off of Lamar’s highly anticipated full length, good kid, m.A.A.d city, and with the end of 2012 having come and gone, many remixes of the song have emerged. Here is a collective list of the most awesome ones:

At Dawn We Rage REMIX
While some people like remixes for their ability to completely transform the song into a whole other entity, I really liked this remix because of how it maintained the same feel as the original song with just a little bit of different mixing/backing tones.

Black Hippy Remix
Ugh, how can you not like this remix? First off, Kendrick was in Black Hippy before he even did his whole solo gig, so you know that this is going to be banging since the people remixing it are just his friends/bandmates (?)/cool peeps. The verses are perfect and the rest of the song remained untouched which just means that this is not really a “remix” and more of just annexing Kendrick’s solo project back into Black Hippy’s arsenal of music. I dig it.

Kaptain Cadillac Remix
The Kaptain sped up “Swimming Pools” a bit and added in a few more noises in the back without making it distracting or taking away from the lyrics. I also am in love with how he turns it down ssslloowww for the chorus. Solid.

Mighty Mi & Slugworth Trap Remix
Okay, before you start, shut up. I know it says “trap” in the remix title but get over it. This song goes hard, and is probably one of my favorites with its full of drops and nonsense, but the diddlin’ keyboard with the slowed vocals is on point.

Angel Haze – “New York” (King Krule Rework) Via BBC1

I wouldn’t peg King Krule as one to rework much, let alone hip hop. But then again, the young kid probably does a lot more than I would ever peg him to do (like make music that has a serious hold on my heart). Not to mention that Angel Haze has been getting a lot of blog love these days, as she damn well should, the reworked track comes as a pleasant surprise. Don’t forget to pick up Angel Haze’s “Classik” mixtape, free!

M.I.A. – “Bad Girls” Surkin Remix

We have all heard the original “Bad Girls” by M.I.A. that was released earlier this year, and since then, it seems like every DJ wants to put their creative spin on the song. Although many of the remixes are pretty terrible, Surkin did a really solid job by keeping the original drums with it and just send out some good vibes. Check out the track below (and congrats to M.I.A. on getting a VMA nomination for “Bad Girls”! If that even means anything anymore).

Tyler, the Recreator – “The Ride” ft. The Weeknd and Andre 3000 (Faded Too Long Remix)

The remix takes The Weeknd’s “The Ride” and slows it down to fit with Andre 3000′s extremely heartfelt verse from UGK’s “International Players“. This Tyler, the Recreator (best name ever? def. best name ever) song is perfect for today’s horribly foggy weather (during summer no less…) and to chill to. This song makes me want Andre to return. C’mon man, Big Boi is doing it!

Check out the Faded Too Long remix below.

Woody – Woody x Notorious B.I.G. Remixed

Remember when Woody self-leaked “Big Poppa” earlier this summer, and we all got really excited about it? Well, his full length remix of all things B.I.G. has finally been released! Woody has proved himself before with the Woody x Kanye West Remixed album he released in May, and this Notorious remix is even better (if that is possible since the first one included Kanye).

My favorite has to be the first track: “Juicy”. Being an awesome hip-hop classic by itself, you would think this was a challenge for Woody but the whole song sounds so effortless and does not loose any of Biggie in it at all. Of course, there are other standout tracks on the album as well, including “One More Chance”, “Mo Money, Mo Problems” and the before mentioned “Big Poppa”. Check it out track by track below, or go to Woody’s Soundcloud and download the whole thing.
