Nas – “The Don” (Massive Attack Remix)

You can never go wrong with Nas, so it is no surprise that this Massive Attack remix is still as awesome as the original (well maybe not AS awesome, but it is still pretty great). With more technologically advanced sounds (alien communication galore!) and more trippy musical sections than the original, Massive Attack’s remix of “The Don” creates a sound that will be familiar enough when we begin to populate Mars. Check it below.

Sinkane – “Jeeper Creeper”

Sinkane (Ahmed Gallab) released a new track “Jeeper Creeper” from the forthcoming LP Mars. He enlisted some help from a few friends and names you might know such as Ira Wolf Tuton and Jason “Jaytram” Trammell (Yeasayer), and background female vocals provided by Kathryn Fink. African-style drumming, funk-driven electronics to cover with psychedelic guitar riffs melted throughout. Follow Sinkane for more updates about the release of Mars

ROSTAM – “Wood”

Rostam, Wood

Today Rostam Batmanglij -member of Vampire Weekend, mastermind behind Discovery, and all-around brilliant producer- released a track titled “Wood”. Sounding like it should belong on a soundtrack for the next Bollywood movie, it maintains signature elements of Rostam’s composing style: accented with fluttering flutes, and soft vocals. Just as much as Discovery’s songs were Japan-based; “Wood” sounds like its coming straight from India, with English lyrics of course. Download here.

Real Estate – “Green Aisles”

Real Estate Band, Days LP

I have this theory that Real Estate can do no wrong. Today, Pitchfork gave “Green Aisles” the ‘Best New Track’ title, and rightly so. This is, of course, if you really dig the reverb, lo-fi, dreamy-surf, otherwise called ‘psychedelic’ sound. “Green Aisles” took shape from an extended jam session, and lyrics were written upon waking up in the morning, “In “Green Aisles” he sings “all those aimless drives through green aisles / our careless lifestyle, it was not so unwise”.” Wistful lyrics accompanied by guitar riffs that match flawlessly. “Green Aisles” will be featured on Real Estate’s second LP Days, out October 18th via Domino.

Tracklist:
01. Easy
02. Green Aisles
03. It’s Real
04. Kinder Blumen
05. Out of Tune
06. Municipality
07. Wonder Years
08. Three Blocks
09. Younger Than Yesterday
10. All The Same

All Welcome

The City Of Hawthorne has been the center of attention lately in the South Bay. Just earlier this week, there was an art show that featured great visuals by many artists as well as music performances from both Narc and Damedas . This Saturday those forces will team up with other artists to perform at the first ever “All Welcome” event at The Den in Hawthorne. Be sure to also check Capitan Fantasma, the solo project of our LA River Swim Team friend, Tony Diaz.

More info about the event can be found here .

Be sure to like “All Welcome” on Facebook here.

I leave you with “El Verano 2011″ (Summer of 2011), a new Damedas tune to start your day off right with an upbeat mood. An article was written about him on The Daily Breeze and I can’t agree anymore when the writer compares his music to the sounds of Panda Bear and El Guincho. Good job Felipe Delgadillo! Check out the article here .

Album Review: Portugal. The Man – In The Mountain In The Cloud

As the days drew closer to the release of this album, it made me realize how underrated Portugal. The Man is. They’re that band you know, heard one song, heard of them but haven’t really listened to. They’ve somehow managed to straddle the radar, which isn’t a bad thing. It shows consistency. Playing together since 2004, In The Mountain In The Cloud is their sixth album released and they’re still able to deliver a quality blend of rock, blues, and psychedelic guitar riffs.

Let’s say you’ve just picked up this album, good for you. What’s the first thing you should know? What you’re holding is a work of art created by the band themselves. That’s right, PTM is kind of one of those DIY bands in the sense that they draw their own cover art (with a bit of help).

ASAP Rocky – Deep Purple

ASAP Rocky, a new young face added to the roster of weird rappers like Odd Future and Lil B is keeping the word swag alive with his mixtape “Deep Purple” . The Harlem rapper is already gaining buzz after the video for “Purple Swag” started hitting the internet. The “Deep Purple” mixtape gives off a southern trill vibe (think chopped and screwed).

Clams Casino – “Gorilla” Fan Video

Clams Casino dropped an awesome mixtape online earlier this year, and he follows up with an EP coming out on June 28th, that you can preview at an earlier post here. The fan-made video above encapsulates the ethereal feel of Clams Casino’s song, which is played over an David Copperfield performance that has been run through some psychedelic digital filters.
