I’m not heavy into poetry, but I ended up at a poetry reading the other week which took place at {open} books in Long Beach. He’s currently on tour with the Whirlwind Company which includes the talented Mindy Nettifee, Brian Ellis, and John Sands. Often times funny, sometimes shocking, or sad; the poetry was unlike anything I expected. Not quite slam poetry (although McGee is very well known for it), it was performance poetry. The poem you’re about to enjoy is titled “Dirty Dimes”. This was the last poem Mike McGee had told at the reading. It left me feeling completely stunned by the time he finished. Purchase one, or all of Mike McGee’s poetry from his Bandcamp. Seriously, one of the best investments you’ll ever make. However, if you’re not into poems with deeper meanings, you might want to check out his more humorous haiku’s titled, “Tits” or “Masturbation”. And yes, they’re really about titties and masturbation.
