Childish Gambino – “Body” ft. Prodigy

Apparently “Body” was one of those songs which missed the cut off for Royalty (ironic since the first two words are “It’s Royalty“). “Body” is still a solid track though, and has plenty of great lines that we all love Childish for in the first place. My favorite? Probably, “You don’t watch Community?! / Bitch, what are you lying for?”, mostly just because of the feigned pretentiousness felt behind him saying it. Listen to “Body” below.

Childish Gambino – Royalty

It’s here, it’s here, it’s finally here! Childish Gambino’s newest mixtape, Royalty hit the internet today and from what I read, every blogger is more than excited about it. To write a song by song review of the mixtape would probably be overkill because I love every song. The collab aspect of it is great too (not that Childish Gambino would make anything less than great) with people like Ab-Soul, Nipsey Hussle, Ghostface Killah, RZA, and. . .Tina Fey? Beck also took some time to produce some of these tracks, so obviously, this is the best mixtape ever. Couldn’t find a SoundCloud account with all the songs streaming, but you can download it (right here!); if you are interested in the playlist with the full list of features and producing credits, check out this article on Paste.

Childish Gambino – “Eat Your Vegetables”

Childish Gambino

Donald Glover, better known in the rap community as Childish Gambino, dropped a new track today called “Eat Your Vegetables”. The track is over a Big Sean like beat (who is, in my opinion, pretty hit or miss) and has a much more laxidasical feel than Camp, his feature length album which dropped in Fall 2011. Stream “Eat Your Vegetables” below and lemme know how you’re feeling this track.

Kanye’s ‘All of the Lights’ (Childish Gambino Remix)

I hesitated posting about this song because I didn’t know how I felt about this track.  It’s definitely more of a cover than a remix, but what gets me is the amount of youthful angst, sexual and monetary overindulgence, blatant offensiveness, and melancholy that’s in it.  Donald Glover’s musical alias, Childish Gambino, coincidentally has similar content to Kanye in this sense, not only in this fix but in a lot of his tracks.  However, Gambino definitely holds a lot more ground then Kanye; he’s much more intelligent.  There’s definitely more introspection and satire in these tracks, and his lyrics of overindulgence is displayed more as a commentary than anything.

As a track to dissect, it’s definitely interesting to me.  The emotional content is not my style, but I can appreciate it over the typical overindulgent rap artist.

I Am Donald Tour

Last night, me and a couple contribs went to see a preview of the I Am Donald Tour in Los Angeles at the El Rey Theatre. What we saw was nothing short of amazing. Donald Glover opened with his stand up, which included plenty of well-deserved rips on M. Night Shyamalan, along with a hilarious video where Glover is visited by his future self. After his comedy set he came back as his Childish Gambino persona and brought down the house.

Glover is a natural at whatever he does. Whether he is writing, acting or rapping, he always puts on a great performance. We here at What’s Good With It will continue to be fans, as this guy is about to skyrocket to fame soon.

Check out Glover free-styling below from last night along with listen to a couple remixes of “Do Ya Like” and “Put It In My Video.” Also see more of last nights show after the jump.

Childish Gambino Live at the El Rey

It’s no secret that I am a huge fan of Donald Glover AKA Childish Gambino.  The writer/actor/rapper/stand-up comedian is performing a comedy and music concert at the El Rey theater in Los Angeles this Sunday the 12th at 8 p.m.

The tickets are only $17.00 on Ticketmaster.  If you’re a fan of Community, 30 Rock, or just stand-up comedy in general, it should a be a great time.

Childish Gambino (Donald Glover) “Culdesac”

Here at WGWit we are huge fans of the NBC show Community.  The show has consistently proved itself to be one of the most original comedies on television, and in my opinion the best ensemble sitcom since Arrested Development.  One of the breakout stars of the show is the young comedian Donald Glover, who plays the dim-witted Troy.  I have been a fan of Donald ever since I discovered his sketch comedy team “Derrick Comedy” on youtube a few years ago.  (One of my favorite videos of theirs can be found after the break.)  He is also an Emmy-nominated writer for the show 30 Rock.  Clearly he is a multi-talented dude, but I didn’t know how talented he really was until I discovered his rap album “Culdesac” which he released recently under his stage name “Childish Gambino” (what a badass name).  The album is surprisingly  good, and his comedic chops can be recognized in the extremely clever lyrics.  He’s part Drake, part Bo Burnham, and part something-completely-different.  The album can be downloaded for free at His Website.

Make sure to check out this acoustic version of “Got This Money” in the video below.  He can sing too!  Is there anything he can’t do?
