Heems – “Killing Time”

Heems, of Das Racist fame, released “Killing Time” for us yesterday as a preview for his upcoming Wild Water Kingdom release. Since I have been following him on Twitter for a year or so, I half expected this release to be all about serious political issues. While all Heems songs have a tinge of political statement, I’m still not sure if it is a relief that “Killing Time” isn’t all injustice and American ignorance, or if I am kind of disappointed. I guess I will just have to wait and see what else Heems has in store for us with Wild Water Kingdom. In the meantime, “Killing Time” has a sick sampling of Echo & the Bunnymen’s “The Killing Moon” and Heem’s signature smart lyrical style. The second verse on “Killing Time” is on point, and the infectious “I’m bored, I’m bored, I’m bored” chorus has been stuck in my head since my first listen. Overall, a really solid track which excites me for his full length, which will be out in fall.
