Lizzart – “Moves Like Pink Matter”

Hey remember when “Moves Like Jagger” was all over the radio and it was fun to listen to for about a week until it came on literally every other song? Yeah, I do too. Since then I have not been able to stand the song, and when I hear those first three notes of the song I get a very strong desire to vomit and / or change the channel.

However, with “Moves like Pink Matter”, the newest ruh-ruh-ruh-reeeeeemixxxxx of Lizzart, I have started to be able to stand the song again! With the addition of the intro to Frank Ocean’s “Pink Matter” the once annoying “Moves Like Jagger” starts to resinate as music once again rather than just obnoxious sounds.

Check out Lizzart’s newest song below and let us know what you think in the comments:

COVER FRIDAYS: Yuna – “Thinking About You” (Originally by Frank Ocean)

Part two of this week’s Cover Friday’s is also about Frank Ocean’s classic “Thinking About You”, but this time the cover is by Yuna, a young Malaysian singer who reimagined this song by only using vocals to create absolutely everything. She sings the backing vocals, the instrumental parts and, obviously, Frank Ocean’s main part. Her voice is flawless, and brings this song into a new light by making it much higher and much… squeakier? But in a good way. Check out Yuna’s cover of “Thinking About You” below, and compare it to Frank Ocean’s original, which is located at the bottom of the post.

COVER FRIDAYS: Nite Jewel & Nicholas Krgovich – “Thinking About You” (Originally by Frank Ocean)

By now, we have all heard “Thinkin’ Bout You” a million times, and yet, we all still love it. Even though covering a Frank Ocean tune seems silly because no one has as beautiful of a voice, many have stepped up to the test. First, we have Nite Jewel & Nicholas Krgovich, who made this song much more low-fy, which works well for covers of this song because packing the same power that Ocean does is almost impossible. By bringing down the tone and splitting the vocals between two people, this cover is a pretty solid one. Both voices in this cover are beautiful, but I can’t help feel like they recorded this cover in one of their basements. Check out Nite Jewel & Nicholas Krgovich’s cover of “Thinking About You” below, with Frank Ocean’s classic below it.

Mann – “Bend Ya” ft. Kendrick Lamar & Frank Ocean

This version sof Mann’s “Bend Ya” came out yesterday, and was met with a storm of bloggers saying that it was just a Kendrick & Frank Ocean song, which is kind of embarrassing and really sad for Mann. Although he doesn’t have the name recognition like the other two, Mann does have the skills that all great rappers should have, and brings together “Bend Ya” with the last verse and a whole bunch of audio effects. With blends in and out and left to right, Mann’s verse will travel to all parts of your ear and leave you wanting more. Kendrick Lamar and Frank Ocean solidify the track, and hopefully this track will bring Mann the star power he deserves. Check it out below.

Frank Ocean – Channel Purple; Channel Orange Chopped and Screwed Remix

Many, many, many, MANY albums have been chopped and screwed before but very few are actually good and well put together. I have the Chopped and Screwed version of Watch the Throne and it made me not even want to listen to the original…but then again, the Chopped not Slopped version of Echoes of Silence by The Weeknd is not that bad. Obviously, nothing beats the original (especially when The Weeknd is involved), but once in a blue moon, a DJ will go rouge and create a really good chopped/slopped/screwed remix of an album. Luckily for us, Slim K’s Chopped and Screwed version of Channel Orange is pretty great.

Frank Ocean – “Golden Girl” ft. Tyler the Creator

Frank Ocean is beautiful as usual on “Golden Girl”, singing about how he and a girl are on an island (or something? Maybe it is all ~just a metaphor~). In typical Ocean fashion, this song is a love song about how beautiful she is, etc.

Since most of you will be buying (haha) Frank Ocean’s full length, Channel Orange, on iTunes, then you will be missing out on this track. “Golden Girl” is only available to those who buy the physical copy of the CD (which would be a nice, cool Easter egg…in 1999 when people actually bought CDs). So unless you are making a trip out to where ever you buy CDs these days, you can stream “Golden Girl” here on WGWI. Oh, also, Tyler the Creator has a verse on this.

Indiana – “Swim Good” (Frank Ocean Cover)

One word: Beautiful.

Frank Ocean – “Pyramids”

10 minutes of beautiful, amazing and new Frank Ocean. Sorry this is a little bit late, but with summer starting I haven’t been around much. I’ll be more on top of posting soon though, no worries! In the meantime, listen to “Pyramids” and revel in Frank Ocean’s majesty.

Frank Ocean – “Summer Remains”

I am high-key a Frank Ocean fan girl, so when he dropped a video of him playing a new song called “Summer Remains”, I jumped on it instantly. The sound quality is actually pretty good, especially in comparison to how bad the video quality is and the awkward beginning to this song is actually pretty cute. Check out “Summer Remains” below.

p.s. There are only 300 views right now, so go watch it now and be one of the ~first to hear it~!

Frank Ocean – “Whip Appeal” (SBTRKT Remix)

Despite my general distaste for the OFWGKTA gang, Frank Ocean is a sigh of relief in a pit of madness. On this remix by SBTRKT, the original “Whip Appeal” still shines through, with only a little bit of editing to it. Honestly, I am a huge fan of this remix (maybe even more than the original?) because I feel like the laid back feel of Frank Ocean is accentuated in this remix rather than covered.
