Radiohead, Mark Ronson Style

Throwback to 2006, Mark Ronson released this cover of the Radiohead track “Just” as a single with featured artist Alex Greenwald. Accompanying it is a music video featuring animated street art, including those of Banksy, and Space Invader (most known for being featured on the documentary film “Exit Through The Gift Shop“). The track is solid and funky; a great take on the original, much like Ben l’Oncle Soul’s cover of “Seven Nation Army”.  The track was re-released in 2008, this time earning a better spot on the UK charts than before.  It seems the only difference the second time was that it mentioned that the track’s featured artist was Phantom Planet, which is simply Alex Greenwald’s band.  All in the name I suppose.

Peep the track below.  Trust me.  Pure. Delicious. Funk.

The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger

Charlotte Kemp Muhl and her beau, Sean Lennon form a dreamy rock (not dream rock) band called The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger (The GOASTT). Harboring sounds from 60s rock, there are hints of The Beatles in their songs, especially in Jardin du Luxembourg where Charlotte’s harmonies complete Sean’s playful melodies. Listen below for the version produced by Mark Ronson, but I personally prefer the lo-fi “acoustic” version streaming on their MySpace page.

Not only do they have this band, but the couple has formed the Chimera Music label. The single can be bought in vinyl and digital formats through the Chimera Music Store.
