Nas – “Bye Baby”

Nas’ “Bye Baby” is a heart-wrenching goodbye letter to his ex-wife Kelis (yeah, I thought Kelis was dating Pharrell but I guess I’m living in 2004). A perfect song for a gloomy day, or a pensive walk. Every time I listen to this, I cannot help but imagining this would be perfect in a movie as a sad montage plays (um, be right back, I’m writing that into my screenplay).

Nas mentions how a lot of people were telling him he was stupid for trusting Kelis, but shoots back with “look at yourself / speak louder brah / you live with your baby momma / too scared to make an honest woman outta her . . . at least I tried” which, in my personal opinion, is the best part of the entire song.

“Bye Baby” is probably the last leak of Nas’ long awaited album Life is Good which you will be able to pick up in stores on July 17th. Listen to it below and get your sadness on. Also, a really sad side note, the cover of the album is Nas holding his ex-wife’s wedding dress (shown above). Awwww…

Nas – “The Don” (Massive Attack Remix)

You can never go wrong with Nas, so it is no surprise that this Massive Attack remix is still as awesome as the original (well maybe not AS awesome, but it is still pretty great). With more technologically advanced sounds (alien communication galore!) and more trippy musical sections than the original, Massive Attack’s remix of “The Don” creates a sound that will be familiar enough when we begin to populate Mars. Check it below.

Nasty Nas Is Back!

Okay not really but the Queens-bridge, New York rapper is back in the game with a raw track that takes you back to the days where he was using his old alias. Just a few weeks ago, he tweeed to his fans the new album title “Life Is Good“, which will feature the likes of Frank Ocean, Bangladesh and Swizz Beatz. The Esco has been focused on putting work in the studio and it definitely shows off in “Nasty”, a three minute track that sounds more like a freestyle from his Illmatic days in 94. Check out the track yourself, do you feel like this could be the comeback we’ve all been waiting for?

” I’m skinny but still I’m too big for a Bentley!”
“Any rebuttle to what I utter gets box cuttered…”

The UK’s “Tinie Tempah”

London based rap artist Tinie Tempah has been generating a small following here in the states.  My first earful was from the Elitaste Mixtape from SXSW (download it here).  Since then I’ve seen him featured in a lot of varying tracks, including the Labrinth remix of the Gorillaz’ “Stylo”, off their most recent album Plastic Beach.

Definitely off the hook so peep game.
